Alaskan husky Paw is too small to be on the dogsled team. But when a little boy doesn't come home from playing in the snow one evening, it's Paw to the rescue, and he earns a spot on the team. The plotting is utterly formulaic, but young readers will cheer the determined hero on. Paw resembles a greeting card animal: airbrushed-seeming but adorable.

In wintertime, with all his forest friends hibernating, Quiet Bunny wonders who will play with him. Suddenly, "Arf arf arf," Noisy Puppy appears. The two seem to be totally different; soft-focus pictures of the fluffy-looking critters illustrate their dissimilar styles of playing. In spite of this, they can be best friends. There's nothing new in the message, but the details are reassuring.

Quiet Bunny, distressed by the lack of springtime colors in his brown-and-white fur, ventures through the forest. Decorating himself with dandelions, lily pads, blueberries, and red-clay mud, he soon learns that bright colors aren't the only thing beautiful about springtime. Despite the trite message ("We are all different colors, and we are all beautiful!"), there's some appeal in the large-scale illustrations.

Quiet Bunny is sad that he can't make noise like the crickets or the owl. He makes his own contribution to the evening's song when he discovers his thumps. Children will enjoy voicing the realistic animal sounds, such as the mosquitoes' "nNNnnnnnnnNnnn." McCue's forest-hued palette makes an effective backdrop against which the fluffy-tailed bunny and his animal friends frolic.
